A Pastoral Note on the Election

A Pastoral Note on the Election

Dear Beloved Community,

As we sit in the aftermath of this election, many of us feel a weight pressing on our hearts — a heaviness that is familiar yet still raw, like an old bruise that never quite healed. As your pastors, we feel it too. We worry about what lies ahead, not only for our own families, but for every family in our community.

We feel it for those who have been on the front lines of hurt before, for those who have already felt the sting of policies that disregard dignity and trample love.

We want to remind you of what we’ve built here together at CCC. We are a community that knows how to cradle one another when the world is cold and unyielding. We know the warmth of collective care, the fierce shelter we offer each other when the winds outside threaten to shake us loose.

Together, we have become a people who know how to resist with compassion at the center, how to organize and take action that springs from love and solidarity. Let’s be present to each other in this time.

If you are feeling fear or weariness settling into your bones, please reach out. We can remind each other that we’re not alone in this struggle, that together we are stronger, bolder, and kinder than we could ever be alone. This journey may be heavy, but the burden will not be yours to carry alone.

Let us hold each other close; every breath a quiet reminder that we are resilient, we are capable, and most of all, we are here. This is hard, yes, but we will walk through it together.

With love and solidarity,

Pastor Matt Braddock, Sr. Minister

Pastor Aubra Love, Executive Pastor

We invite you to gather with us this Sunday at Christ Congregational Church, where we honor and celebrate our diverse community of spiritual seekers. We will reflect on the journey of faith through scripture readings, including Psalm 126 and the story of Bartimaeus from Mark 10, reminding us to seek clarity and hope in our times of transition. The service will feature uplifting music by Colin Carmody, a children’s moment, and a sermon titled “Eyes Clear, Fields Full.” Together, we will pray, share joys and concerns, and dedicate our offerings in gratitude for the blessings in our lives. Whether you’re new or returning, we look forward to celebrating this journey of faith with you!

World Communion Sunday

We are delighted to invite you to World Communion Sunday worship at Christ Congregational Church — where our inclusive community of spiritual seekers honors and celebrates people of all races, cultures, ages, abilities, sexual orientations, and gender identities. Join us on Sunday October 6th at 10:30 AM, in person or on Zoom.

This week Leeann Irwin is our Lay Reader, and Pastor Matt offers a sermon, “One Bread, One Body” based on Mark 10:13-16. We will enjoy beautiful music by our beloved Chancel Choir, with Brad Sperber, Spencer Clark and Ingrid Baynes, soloists; and Graham Meeks, djembe.

At the heart of the service, Pastor Matt and Pastor Aubra lead us through the Sacrament of Communion on this World Communion Sunday. CCC practices open communion. Anyone who seeks the love of God is welcome at the Table. Jesus shared a life for the whole world; we seek to be as welcoming and open as he is. The variety of communion breads this Sunday includes samples from six continents. The diversity of citizens living in the United States allows us to have access and to enjoy the flavors and textures shared by people from around the world. This year we are adding more Middle Eastern breads. As you taste any or all of these breads, please pray for Reconciliation and Peace in that region and beyond.

“Beloved community, on this World Communion Sunday, we gather as branches from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and traditions, united by our shared faith in God’s boundless love. In this sacred moment, we invite you to join us at this table of unity and inclusivity. Embracing who you are and where you come from, we welcome you here. Let us celebrate the communion of our hearts and souls, recognizing that we are all ingrafted branches into the tree of faith.”

After worship, please join us for refreshments downstairs in the Social Hall along with our Transition Town Hall Meeting after worship.

Field Trip to Silver Spring United Methodist Church

Sunday Sept 29, 12:30 PM

8900 Georgia Ave, Silver Spring, MD 20910

The Transition Team invites CCC members to another trip to explore a potential interim worship space at Silver Spring United Methodist Church (SSUMC). SSUMC is making its Social Hall available to us on Sunday mornings next year. CCCers may stop and see the space on SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 29 at 12:30 PM after worship.

Please note:

  • This space is not currently ADA accessible. SSUMC has a plan to add lifts as well as other renovations, to be completed by the end of the year. Right now, there are a number of steep stairs down to the space.
  • We will look at the SOCIAL HALL, which has been made available to us. This is a different space than the Sanctuary, which many of us have visited in the past.
  • For those interested in learning more about SSUMC’s master architectural plan, with all of their upcoming renovations, CCCers may join their special meeting at 11:30 on 9/29.
  • We are not worshipping in the space on 9/29. This is only a field trip for those who want to experience the Social Hall firsthand and imagine the possibilities. We will worship together at 9525 Colesville Rd., and then head to SSUMC after our worship has ended.

Please let Pastor Matt or Transition Team members know if you have any questions.  –Judy Cox, Kristen Brown, Matt Dinkel, John Enagonio

CCC INVENTORY WALKTHROUGH
September 15, 2024

Join us this Sunday, September 15, 2024, for an Inventory Walkthrough and a preliminary farewell to our 9525 Colesville Road location. Volunteers have made an initial summary of items to be moved to our interim church home and we need your help to complete this work.

Meet us in the Social Hall with your coffee hour refreshment, and Maureen Ingram will provide a brief overview of how the walkthrough will proceed. We invite you to walk through each room on the first floor of the building. There will be special post-its for you to indicate your preferences about an item. These include but are not limited to:

  • you believe this item is essential for our new location, you don’t see it on the moving list, and you will take responsibility for moving it to our interim location, or

  • this item is something you personally treasure and would love to keep as a memento, or

  • this item is something that you gifted the church and would like to have back.

Guides will be located throughout the first floor to assist in these deliberations, and to collect your post-its as you make decisions. As you walk, we invite you to express appreciation for how the space has served us well these many years and to say goodbye. We’ll conclude the walkthrough in the Social Hall, and we hope you’ll share your reflections with us.

Are you out of town this weekend and concerned that you are missing the walkthrough? Be assured, items are not being removed from the building before our January move-out. Send an email to Mariya (mariyag@cccsilverspring.org) and Tony (tomoingram@yahoo.com) expressing your needs.

Again, this is a work-in-progress, and we appreciate having many supportive folks involved in our inventory process. Thank you so much!

Special Worship Service at Heritage Christian Church – August 25

Special Worship Service at Heritage Christian Church – August 25

We are excited to announce that our congregation has been invited to worship at Heritage Christian Church  (Christian Church Disciples of Christ) TODAY, August 25, at 10:30 AM. This special service will be held at their location: 15250 New Hampshire Ave, Silver Spring, MD 20905.

As part of the ongoing efforts by our Transition Team to find a suitable interim home for our church, Heritage Christian Church has emerged as a newly-identified option. This joint worship service provides a wonderful opportunity to experience worship in a different space and to see how well we might fit within their environment.

Please note that while we are not merging with the Heritage Church congregation, this service allows us to explore the possibility of sharing their worship space in the future.

Let’s come together as a community to explore new possibilities and celebrate the strength and spirit that unites us. For those unable to attend in person, there will be an online link available for virtual worship.

PARKING: There is plenty of Parking in their lot. Please turn onto Norwood Rd and turn into their parking lot. Heritage CC is an accessible building.
