In these turbulent times, the political reality for funding out-of-school time (OST) programs like ours has changed. SCC can no longer rely on DC and federal pass-through funding, as we have for a decade. This change has caused at least one OST program in the Shaw neighborhood to close, resulting a greater need than ever. We are not only staying open but are opening a new site, in addition to our current site at Lincoln Temple UCC, and expanding our programing.   We hope to raise $50,000 this Fall to give SCC time to find new diversified sources of funds. With your help, we can continue to provide these valuable programs on which our Shaw families have come to rely.

Programs.  SCC signature programs are the After-school Enrichment program, and the summer camp, serving nearly 100 elementary school children over the course of the year.  These programs provide safe-structured childcare throughout the year, and empower parents to work or enroll in continuing education, trusting that their children are in good hands.  Among other program, recently we have responded to the crisis of ‘disconnected youth’ with a Workforce Development Program that includes vocational training in technology, interpersonal skills and customer service.  At our new site, we hope to start a programing for tweens and teens.

How to donate. To make it clear that I am not asking you to contribute any amount to SCC that I am not willing to also contribute, I pledge to match all your contributions up to $3,000.  Any amount that you can give will help us meet this $3,000 challenge. You can donate (including a recurring amount) at Alternatively, sent a check made out to Shaw Community Center to Shaw Community Center, 1701 11th St. NW, Washington, DC 20001.
