PRELUDE, I call to thee, Lord Jesus Christ
Clarice Snyder

Pastor Gloria Grant

We have come here, not because we have all the answers.
We have come, not because we are better than others.
We have come, not because our lives always run smoothly.

We are here because, by faith, we journey together.
We are here to worship a God who never grows tired or weary.

*HYMN OF PRAISE # 12, I Sing the Mighty Power of God

Brian Holland

A prayer by Jane M. Mackichan from Celtic Blessings Prayers for Everyday Life by Ray Simpson

Morning, encircle my soul
In morning stillness scatter the shadows of fear
Be at my side in midday bustle.
Weave through the knotwork of time
Talk to my heart in teatime chatter
Speak through the discords of life
Lighten the load of incoming darkness.
Glow like a star at midnight.
We pray together saying,

God, who art in heaven, hallowed be your name.  Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors.  Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever.  AMEN

Based on How Generosity Leads to Awakening by Sharon Salzberg

The practice of generosity is about creating space. We see our limits and we extend them continuously, which creates an expansiveness and spaciousness of mind that’s deeply composed. We also practice generosity to free others, to extend welfare and happiness to all beings, to somehow, as much as each one of us can, lessen the suffering in this world. When genuine, when it’s complete, we realize inner spaciousness and peace, and we also learn to extend boundless caring to all living beings.

RESPONSE, There Are Many Ways of Sharing, (TUNE: “Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing”)

Copyright © 2004 by Carolyn Winfrey Gillette. All rights reserved.

There are many ways of sharing, But God’s Spirit gives each one.
There are different ways of caring; It’s one Lord whose work is done.
God, whose gifts are overflowing, May we hear you when you call;
Keep us serving, keep us growing For the common good of all.

We’ve been baptized in the waters! We’ve been given work to do.
When you call your sons and daughters, You give gifts for serving you.
God, we join in celebration Of the talents you impart.
Bless each baptized one’s vocation; Give each one a servant’s heart.

All are blest by gifts you give us; Some are set apart to lead.
Give us Jesus’ love within us As we care for those in need.
Give us faith to make decisions; Give us joy to share your Word.
Give us unity and vision As we serve your church and world.

OFFERTORY, Jesu, grant me this, I pray
The Chancel Choir

Jesu, grant me this, I pray, ever in Thy heart to stay;
Let me evermore abide hidden in Thy wounded side.

If the evil one prepare, or the world, a tempting snare,
I am safe when I abide in Thy heart and wounded side.

If the flesh, more dangerous still, tempt my soul to deeds of ill,
Naught I fear when I abide in Thy heart and wounded side.

Death will come one day to me; Jesu, cast me not from Thee;
Dying let me still abide in Thy heart and wounded side.

Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;
Praise God, all creatures here below;
Praise God for all that love has done;
Creator, Christ, and Spirit, One.

Brian Holland

May we continue to draw sustenance from this earth and return to it our love. May we ever move from separation toward union and live in grace, with love in our hearts, forever and ever. Amen.
