Welcome

*Lighting the Advent Candles

The Music Committee

O God, we remember that you sent Jesus, not just to the rich and the powerful, but to the poor and those in need. We remember that Jesus healed the sick, comforted those who mourn, and went out of his way to love even little children. God, may the light of this fourth candle, as it dispels the darkness around it, help to remind us that we are to dispel the darkness of sickness, poverty, injustice, and suffering all around us.

*Hymn of Praise

O Come All Ye Faithful

ADESTE FIDELIS

O come, all ye faithful, joyful and triumphant,
O come ye, O come ye to Bethlehem.
Come and behold him, born the King of angels.

   Refrain: O come, let us adore him. O come, let us adore him.
   O come, let us adore him, Christ the Lord.

See how the shepherds, summoned to his cradle,
leaving their flocks, draw  nigh with lowly fear;
we, too, will thither bend our joyful footsteps. Refrain

Child, for us sinners, poor and in the manger,
we would embrace thee with  love and awe.
Who would not love thee, loving us so dearly? Refrain

Sing, choirs of angels, Sing in exultation.
O sing, all ye citizens of heaven above!
Glory to God, all glory in the highest. Refrain

Yea, Lord, we greet thee, born this happy morning,
Jesus, to thee be all glory given.
Word of the Godhead, now in flesh appearing. Refrain.

Prayer Of Invocation And The Lord’s Prayer                                                Jeanne Young

How may your peace take shape in our world, O God? Does it arrive when compassion moves us to risk our dreams? When we live into our vision of a community made whole by peace made real?  Do miracles of open hearts and open minds join to miracles of willed reconciliation and willed non-violence? We pray for you to show us. We pray for you to lead us, praying together saying . . .

Holy God, who art in heaven, hallowed be your name.  Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors.  Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever.  AMEN

*Choral Postlude

Joy to the World

ANTIOCH arr. Rutter

Joy to the world! The Lord is come;
Let earth receive her king.
Let every heart, prepare him room,
And heaven and nature sing,
And heaven and nature sing,
And heaven, and heaven and nature sing.

Joy to the earth! The Savior reigns;
Let us our songs employ,
While fields and floods, rocks, hills and plains
Repeat the sounding joy,
Repeat the sounding joy,
Repeat, repeat the sounding joy.

(Choir) No more let sin and sorrow grow,
Nor thorns infest the ground.
Christ comes to make his blessings flow,
Far as the curse is found,
Far as the curse is found,
Far as, far as the curse is found,.

Christ rules the world with truth and grace,
And makes the nations prove
The glories of God’s righteousness,
And wonders of God’s love,
And wonders of God’s love,
And wonders, wonders of God’s love.

*Benediction
