*Call to Worship  (Based on Psalm 146)
Happy are those whose hope is in God,
maker of heaven and earth--
for God keeps faith forever!

God executes justice for the oppressed
and gives food for the hungry.
God sets the prisoners free
and opens the eyes of the blind.

God lifts up those who are bowed down.
God watches over the strangers
and upholds the orphan and the widow.

People of God, sing praise to the One who is your help—
for God keeps faith forever!

*Hymn of Praise #  332             As We gather At Your Table                                         BEACH SPRING

Prayer Of Invocation And The Lord’s Prayer
Faithful God, break bread with us, who are hungry in many ways. When we are broken, help us find wholeness. When we are lost, show us a way home. Transform us with your compassion so that we can help make you known through acts of justice and kindness in the world. As Jesus taught we pray, Holy God, who art in heaven, hallowed be your name.  Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors.  Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever.  Amen.

Reception of New Members

Words from the Minister

Introduction

Questions to the New Members
Is it your desire to enter into covenant relationship with Christ Congregational Church, United Church of Christ?

Response
It is. We will seek to be faithful, with God’s help. We pledge to share with you the joys and sorrows of our life together, affirming our mutual ministry in Christ.

Christ Congregational Church Covenant                                                                             Leslie Weyn
We covenant with one another as a community of faith grounded in God, the source of all life.  We seek to walk in the ways of God’s abiding love, made known or to be made known to us through the Holy Scriptures, the life and teachings of Jesus, and the continuing guidance of the Holy Spirit in our lives and worship.  Affirming that all persons are created in the image of God, we honor and celebrate people of all races, cultures, ages, abilities, sexual orientations, and gender identities.  In our life together we endeavor to support each other on our spiritual journeys with open minds and loving hearts.  We hold it to be the mission of the church to embody the good news of God’s love for all people by laboring for the progress of knowledge, the promotion of justice, and the reign of peace.  We work and pray for the transformation of ourselves and all creation into realms of God’s compassion; and in faith we place ourselves in God’s hands, in death as in life.

Welcome and Promise from the Congregation                                                             Pete Macleod
We, members and friends of Christ Congregational Church, welcome you with great joy into our Christian walk, work and worship. We pledge to you our love and prayers. God grant that by loving and being loved, serving and being served, forgiving and being forgiven, we may truly be your people and further your kingdom on earth. Amen.

You know us, O God, by the way we give. In our willingness to understand the church’s needs, you know our concerns; in our sharing for the poor, the compromised and the rejected, you know our generosity; in our desire to spread the Good News in word and deed, you know our priorities. Bless these gifts and bless the givers, lovingly and peacefully. Amen.

Benediction
As people of God, we trust this:
                        God keeps faith forever.
We go from this place filled with new life,
ready to bear the good news of God’s promises.
And should we find ourselves feeling worried or discouraged this week,
we will remember that the wondrous love of God,
the healing power of Christ Jesus,
and the bold courage of the Holy Spirit,
go with us today and always.
Let God be your compass.  Amen!
