MUSIC PROGRAM

Christ Congregational Church is proud of its more than 75-year heritage of outstanding music ministry.  Music is viewed as a vital component of worship, congregational life, and of building community. Our hope is to involve as many interested volunteers as are willing and able to participate. Many opportunities exist and we hope that we have a place for your talents and those of your family (and friends, too!)

For additional information or inquiries about the music program, please contact the Director of Music, Sam Wack: samw@cccsilverspring.org.

Get Involved

Director: Sam Wack

Rehearsal: Thursdays, 7:30 p.m. in the Choir Room.

The Chancel Choir welcomes all – older youth (9th grade and up) through adults – to sing in worship weekly at the 10:30 a.m. service as well as other special seasonal services such as Christmas Eve and Maundy Thursday.  The choir performs larger choral works throughout the year and occasionally performs joint concerts with Silver Spring United Methodist Church.

There are no auditions required to join. If you enjoy singing a variety of music, from classical pieces to spirituals, we have a place for you here!

Director: Spencer Clark

The group is open to all children ages 3-10 and gathers weekly IMMEDIATELY AFTER worship and church school.  Children learn religious songs and hymns in a relaxed setting, periodically participating in the 10:30am service. Adult volunteers (non-parents welcome!) are needed to support Children’s Music Time by helping teach music, supervise, and provide healthy snacks.

Directors: Peder Maarbjerg & Sam Wack

The Acoustic Band Players provide the worship music several times throughout the year. If you play guitar, bass, percussion, banjo, accordion, mandolin or violin, we welcome you.

Director: Sam Wack

We will have several opportunities throughout the year to play together during worship. Be on the lookout for announcements.

If you play an instrument, sing or dance, and would like to share your talents during a service, we would welcome your participation!

Chair: Karen O’Steen

This committee works with the Director of Music to assess CCC’s music needs and aspirations; establish a yearly calendar of music programs; identify financial, human, and other resources needed to support the music program; and periodically assess any need for improvements in CCC’s music spaces, instruments and other equipment and their maintenance, and the music library.  The committee meets as needed.

Keep Singing!

Keep Singing! is starting up again for the fall.  The virtual gathering is starting this Thursday, 9/23 at 7:30pm and will continue weekly.  Keep Singing! is a chance to visit with fellow singers and sing from home.

Choir Tours

The CCC Chancel Choir goes on an international tour approximately every 4 years.  Tours consist of performances in notable venues as well as memorable sight-seeing and other fun activities.

Participation is open to all, even those not currently members of the CCC Chancel Choir, space permitting.

Notable Events

In November 2019, the Chancel Choir was invited to perform a Holiday Concert at Carnegie Hall under the direction of Eric Whitacre.  Twenty-six members of the choir participated in the 3-day event, which consisted of several rehearsals with Mr. Whitacre in preparation for the concert.

Church Organ

Christ Congregational Church is fortunate to house a 3 manual and pedal Moller Pipe Organ (Hagerstown, MD), which was originally installed in 1978.  A solid state console was rebuilt in 2002 by DiGenarro-Hart.  It has 8 memory levels, and is on a movable platform.  There are 27 ranks with additional Zimbelstern chimes.
