Fall Church School

ONE TEACHER IS STILL NEEDED for the 4th and 5th grade class fall unit, running September 13 through November 22.

Nursery Care
Care is provided during both the 9:00 and 10:30 worship services for infants and young toddlers in the Nursery, Room 106 on the main floor.

Church School Program
This year we adopted Seasons of the Spirit, a lectionary based curriculum that explores the same themes and scriptures as Sunday morning worship.  There will be six classes using Seasons of the Spirit for 3rd olds through 8th grade.  All children start in worship with their families and leave for Sunday school after children’s time.

  • The Lambs – pre kindergarten threes, four and five year olds meet in room 006 use stories and activities from Seasons of the Spirit and meet every week.

The next five classes only meet three Sundays a month (or four in five Sunday months).  On the first Sunday of the month they join Carolyn Hoskinson’s to explore the sacrament of Holy Communion.  The five other classes are:

  • Kindergarten – room 107
  • First Grade – room 009
  • Second and Third Grades – room 208
  • Fourth and Fifth Grades – room 207
  • Middle School – room 206

At CCC we are committed to continuing our tradition of Christian Education by  creating a safe and welcoming environment for all children; exploring scripture and theology with an open heart and open mind; providing teacher support and training; and growing in the Spirit together as a community in Christ.  Our Sunday school teachers are adults willing to journey honestly with children as they explore questions of faith together.  None of us fully comprehend God, nor are our own journeys of faith yet final.  Sunday school is about creating a space for children and adults to grow in their relationship with Christ and each other.  We invite you to join us on this journey.

At Christ Congregational Church we have a strong and growing youth program with over 80 youth ages 5th through 12th grade.  5th graders meet monthly for fellowship activities.  Our 6th through 12th graders meet weekly at 5:30 for dinner, worship and programs.

      • 5:30 Youth Group Dinner in the Social Hall
      • 6:15 Dinner, Clean Up, and Preparation for Worship
      • 6:30 Worship
      • 7:00 Youth Group, 6th Grade OWL and Covenant Class
      • 8:15 Wrap up and Parent Pick Up

We strive for worship to be youth planned and led.  It is an opportunity for our youth to explore their relationship with each other and the divine through music, experiential meditations, liturgical dance, prayer and rituals.  Nae Person and Kristen Curlee will help facilitate worship volunteers and assist them in their planning.  Worship volunteers will meet at 5:00 pm the week before they plan to lead worship.

This year 6th Graders are invited to participate in OWL (Our Whole Lives) a program exploring human sexuality.

9th Graders are invited to participate in Covenant Class, our confirmation program, where students explore their faith journey, the Bible, Christian practices, church history, history and polity of the United Church of Christ and theology on the way towards Confirmation Sunday, May 16, 2010.

Our 7th and 8th grade youth group and 10th, 11th and 12th grade youth group curriculum was developed based on a spring brainstorming session with the youth and their leaders Our areas of focus for this year are:  worship, social justice, contemporary theology and fun night fellowship activities.

In addition to Sunday evening activities we plan weekend trips that help foster community and faith formation.  This year’s activities include a fall Middle School “wake-in”, a fall Senior High Retreat, a trip to SERRV International, a spring All-Youth trip to the Ropes Course in West Virginia and a summer mission trip in the works.  Check the calendar for more details.

Building community is not just for children and youth.  Monthly we have a potluck dinner and parent program.  Generally, this will be the second Sunday of the month.  Check the calendar for dates.
